19 mars/March 19th Guanica, PR

Les deux bateaux PipeDream et nous sommes partis de Mayaguez vers 10:00 le 19 au matin, belle matinée, et la direction et la vitesse du vent est parfaite pour le Genneker!  Une fois montée, Carpathia fait du 8.3-8.5 noeuds avec un vent arrière, le bateau est presque droit et très stable.  Une fois passée la pointe de Cabo Rojo, le vent baisse et il faut rentrer le Genneker et partir le moteur.  Nous devions nous rendre à Poncé mais nous avons décidé d'aller à Guanica lorsque nous avons aperçu l'entrée du chenail entouré de magnifiques montagnes, il est déjà 17:30 et Poncé est à 2:30 d'ici et il fera bientôt nuit.  Babord toute, PipeDream est bien d'accord avec notre choix.  Belle ancrage, très calme.  Sue nous prépare un excellent repas de spaghetti, salade, etc. et vers 21:30, tout le monde au dodo, demain Poncé.

L'arrivée à Poncé s'est bien passée, la marina étant fermée, nous avons attaché Carpathia au quai municipal, jusqu'au lendemain la marina sera ouverte.  En attendant on va faire un tour sur la place publique, c'est la fête, c'est dimanche!  Lundi on loue une voiture et partons voir l'observatoire de Arecibo. Le radiotélescope le plus gros au monde.

Les 2 jours suivant ont été magasinage, épicerie, etc.  Mardi matin, ma soeur m'annonce qu'elle pourrait venir nous rejoindre à Puerto Rico et passer une dizaine de jours avec nous et repartir de St-Thomas ou St-Croix, cool! Elle arrive donc jeudi après-midi vers 15:30 à San Juan!  Nous sommes très contents de sa décision de venir nous rejoindre.  Nous partirons vendredi pour Palmas del Mar qui est à l'est de Poncé à 54 milles nautiques (108 km).


Both PipeDream and Carpathia left Mayaguez around 10 am, nice weather, good wind direction and speed for the Gennaker.  We get to spped of 8.3-8.5 knots with the wind in the back the boat is almost straight and very stable.  Once passed Cabo Rajo, the wind is no longer in our favor, so we start the motor.  We were suppose to go to Poncé but Guanica caught our eye with the beautiful mountains and it's already 5:30 and Poncé is in 2.5 hours it will soon be dark.  So port side we go with PipeDream.  Very nice anchorage, quiet and surrounded by mountains.  Sue prepared us a good spaghetti, salad...the works, by 9:30 we're in bed, tomorrow Poncé.

Arriving in Ponce the marina was closed so we tied up at the municipal dock for the night, once everything is done, we decide to go on the boardwalk where the music and festive people are gathering.  Monday we rented a car and drove to the Arecibo Obsevatory which is the largest radiotelescope on earth.

The next few days were grocery and boat shopping.  Tuesday morning my sister calls and tells us she can meet us in Puerto Rico and spend 10 days with us, she will leave from St Thomas or St Croix, cool.  We picked her up on Thursday in San Juan at 3:30, we are very happy of her decision.  We will leave Friday for Palmal del Mar farther east at 54 nautical miles.
